The other day, I started to make homemade mashed potatoes, but I had carrots I needed to use, too. (See my homemade mashed post here: https://royalechristine.com/2019/03/25/homemade-mashed/) I threw the carrots into the boiling water as well, because I used to love mixing up my mashed and corn or mashed and carrots as a kid.

My husband came home and said he was going to take the homemade mashed potatoes and carrots, along with some hamburger, and eat the insides of the pasty; he was craving one, and we are a good distance from any pasty shops.

At first, I thought my husband was crazy. Then, the kids wanted to eat it, and they loved it, too. Admittedly, I tried it since they all liked it, and it’s definitely something I can add to the recipe rotation.

Now, it doesn’t compare to a real pasty, but a homemade pasty is a process, and if this gets the kids to eat from a variety of the food groups, I’ll make it.

The bonus: it’s easy. In this busy life, I love easy.

I know this recipe won’t be for everyone, but it was one of those moments where you wonder, Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

If you try it out, let me know what you think. I’m sure many of you have been doing this for years, but I’m just trying it out now, and I’d love to hear your variations.
